Australian History

Welcome Stranger - PosterWelcome Stranger
Australian History & Culture

In 1788 the first wave of immigrants arrived in Australia with the First Fleet - but it took until the gold rush of the 1850s for Australia to really start developing it's multicultural heart! Join in the adventure through this rollicking period of Australian history, exploring life on the goldfields , Chinese immigration , and the experience of that most overlooked group of immigrants - the women!

True stories from these times spring to life with an award winning writer and company using comedy , music , role-play and audience participation in a show that celebrates both our diversity and the spirit of our intrepid ancestors.

Featuring a cast of 3 dynamic singer/actors, vignettes of life as it really was for both men AND women on the goldfields are further explored using interactive scenes where, amongst others, students learn how to wash and starch clothes, walk and interact in public as the customs of the day demanded, and devise freeze frames illustrating the daily experience of immigrants. In true musical fashion, students are enthralled with loads of singing, dancing and comedy!
